The Group 2 Warwick Stakes is a weight-for-age event run over 1400m. Prizemoney is set at $150 000 and it is the first race of this distance in the carnival, giving the runners a nice start to the season. Held the week before the Warwick Stakes, the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill is a fantastic lead-up race also run under weight-for-age conditions. The slight step up in distance for the Warwick Stakes is a good challenge for the horses in training for more lucrative races including the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose held the following week. The Golden Rose (1400m) is the premier event of the carnival and is a race for three-year-olds at set weights. For Warwick Stakes’ contenders not aimed at the Golden Rose, other excellent races they may follow up with include the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) held at Randwick towards the end of September.
