Warwick Stakes 2012 – Nominations Released

August 20th, 2012

Nominations have been released for the Group 2 Warwick Stakes, which are set to run at Warwick Farm racecourse this Saturday August 25, 2012.

Run over a distance of 1,400 metres, the 2012 Warwick Stakes has attracted nominations from 16 race horses.

Included in the 2012 Warwick Stakes nominations is Maluckyday, who will be having his first start since September last year.

The Zabeel gelding was a leading contender for last year’s Melbourne Cup before injury struck in the Chelmsford Stakes.

Maluckyday has won five of his 13 race starts and has earned more than $1.27 million in prize money.

The six-year-old finished second in the 2010 Melbourne Cup and will be looking to go one better in this year’s race.

He will be looking to start his spring campaign with a convincing win in the 2012 Warwick Stakes.

Lights Of Heaven is also included in the 2012 Warwick Stakes nominations.

The five-year-old mare has won six of her 13 race starts and has earned more than $970,000 in prize money.

She found great success during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival earlier this year, when she won the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup and the Group 2 Brisbane Cup.

The Zabeel mare also placed a close second in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes and Group 1 Doomben Cup.

Pinwheel, Bold Glance and Secret Admirer are also included in the 2012 Warwick Stakes nominations.
