Royal Descent Confirmed for 2014 Warwick Stakes Resumption

August 18th, 2014

A consistent performer over four starts through autumn, trainer Chris Waller has confirmed Royal Descent will return to racing in this weekend’s featured Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Randwick and is confident in a strong first-up performance.

Running on to finish fourth in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) on March 1st, the Redoute’s Choice mare was unlucky to be blocked for a run and fifth in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on March 22nd; charging home to finish second to stable mate and fellow Warwick Stakes nominee Sacred Falls in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) most notably on April 12th.

Also revealing three-time Group 1 Boban will likely line up for the Randwick feature, Waller told AAP he has been thrilled with the way Royal Descent has returned to work and is expecting a successful progression through to the 2014 Cox Plate (2040m) on October 25th.

“Royal Descent will also resume in the Warwick Stakes and Tommy Berry rides her,” Waller said.

“I’m really happy with how she looks and she is also headed to the Cox Plate.

“Although she won an Oaks, she will be kept to shorter than 2400 metres this time.

“I think her run in the Doncaster was one of the best of her career.”

Securing an impressive total of four wins and six minor places from just 16 competitive race starts so far, Royal Descent was a standout performer over the entire 2013 Australian racing calendar; winning both the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) and Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) through autumn and returning in spring for close seconds in both the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1300m) and Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) and third in the Group 3 Tramway Stakes (1400m) most notably.

A final field and barrier draw for the 2014 Warwick Stakes is due to be released on Wednesday morning, with betting fields available with Ladbrokes.com.au shortly after.
