Pride Confirms Classy Pair for 2014 Warwick Stakes

August 19th, 2014

Pleasing the Warwick Farm trainer with their respective first-up performances two weeks ago, Joe Pride has confirmed he will accept position in the final field of this weekend’s featured Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick for classy stable mates Tiger Tees and Laser Hawk.

Jumping from the gates well in the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on August 9th, Tiger Tees dictated terms throughout and comfortably found the line in the clear, while Laser Hawk finished eighth amongst classy competition in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.

Confirming each runner has come through their respective first-up performances in full health, Pride told AAP he is predominantly confident in another race win for Tiger Tees in the 2014 Warwick Stakes, particularly if the Randwick surface experiences further rain in the lead-up to Saturday’s feature.

“I will have Tiger Tees and Laser Hawk in the race,” Pride said.

“Tiger Tees has shown he runs well on good tracks but he handles wet tracks a lot better than many others.”

Securing an impressive total of 12 wins and five minor places from just 28 competitive starts so far, Tiger Tees was a standout performer over the 2014 Autumn Carnival, winning the Listed Falvelon (1200m) first-up and securing a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) most notably on March 29th.

Having also finished fourth in the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) and third in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m), Tiger Tees will be more than a chance of repeat success this weekend if allocated a favourable barrier at Wednesday’s draw.

A Group 1 champion in his own right, Laser Hawk charged home to win the 2012 edition of the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m), during a racing preparation which also delivered minor placings in both the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) and Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m).

Unable to take part in the 2013 spring of 2014 autumn carnivals as a result of a severe tendon injury, Pride is confident the Artie Schiller gelding will return to Group 1 form this time in.
