Talented Godolphin import It’s Somewhat contested something of a mixed Autumn Carnival preparation this year, and trainer John O’Shea has revealed he will have the rising five-year-old ready for early targets during the 2015 Spring Carnival, including the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) on August 22nd.
It’s Somewhat began his racing career under the guidance of notable British trainer Mark Johnston in mid-2013; posting a credible two wins and five minors through a total of thirteen competitive starts.
Transferred to the care of O’Shea and Godolphin Australian following his 2014 racing campaign, the son of Dynaformer more than stamped his claims as one to watch when charging home to win the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) by close to two lengths first-up, but failed to handle the late pace when ninth in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) most recently on March 21st.
Revealing a race like the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Randwick in early October will figure as his major Spring Carnival target, O’Shea told Racing Ahead he is confident It’s Somewhat is capable of first-up success in the 2015 Warwick Stakes.
“I think we’ll get him going early,” O’Shea said.
“He’s an Epsom horse and I’m thinking a mile, a mile and a quarter is his pitch.
“He’s strengthened really well and his run in the Ryder was excellent.
“I would think he’s again a genuine Group 1 handicap. Whether he goes to the Epsom or stays down for the Toorak Handicap.
“He will be going up and early and there’s the possibility of winning a Warwick Stakes or being effective in a Warwick Stakes first-up.”
It’s Somewhat has produced strong and consistent results through his entire racing career so far but arguably first caught the eye through a standout 2013 preparation highlighted by success in the talent-rich Listed Denford Stud Stakes (1408m) and second in the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes (1609m).
Continuing to impress through 2014, It’s Somewhat finished third in the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse (2012m) most notably and ended his campaign with an appearance in the Group 1 Ladbrokes St Leger (2937m); albeit an unsuccessful performance.
