Trainer John Thompson has been thrilled with the building condition of Group 1 winner First Seal in the lead-up to her Spring Carnival return, and has revealed the four-year-old will contest the 2015 Warwick Stakes (1400m) first-up following a strong trial at Randwick last week.
First Seal has posted an impressive four wins and five minors through eleven career starts so far and announced herself to the Australian racing community through the 2014 edition of the Spring Carnival; winning each of the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) on her way to a close second in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) most notably.
Leading hoop Blake Shinn partnered by the Fastnet Rock mare and is confident she is more than ready for a racing return in the 2015 Warwick Stakes at Randwick on August 22nd.
“She felt awesome,” Shinn said.
“She looks good and did exactly what I wanted her to do.”
Thompson will now program First Seal towards resuming in the weight for age Warwick Stakes in three weeks.
“The Warwick Stakes suits,” Thompson said.
“1400-metres around Warwick Farm under weight-for-age conditions will be perfect.”
Thompson was equally impressed with the performance and confirmed the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) will figure as her first major target this time in.
“If I could have programmed how I wanted the trial to unfold, that would have been exactly how it went,” Thompson said.
“Second up will probably be the Let’s Elope at Flemington and then onto the Sir Rupert Clarke and Toorak and probably Myer after that.”
First Seal returned to racing this year for a close second to Adrift in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) on February 14th; progressing to success in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) before finishing second in each of the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) and Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m).
The 2015 Warwick Stakes final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, August 19th.
